Terrassa, the new coordinator of the UNESCO Cities of Film

 

Terrassa takes over from Santos as the leading city in the network and will be in charge of managing and coordinating the different projects and activities promoted by the 18 Creative Cities of Cinema.

From now on and for the next two years, Terrassa will be in charge of coordinating the Unesco Cinema Creative Cities Network, accompanied by the South Korean city of Busan as deputy coordinator. This was decided at the meeting held this Wednesday between the 18 cities that are part of this network.

In this way, Terrassa takes over from Santos as the leading city in the network and will be in charge of managing and coordinating the different projects and activities promoted by the creative cities of cinema, also assuming a relevant role in the organization. internal of Unesco as well as a direct dialogue with the rest of the creative cities of this organism.

The Councilor for Audiovisual Projects of Terrassa, Pep Forn, explained that: “Terrassa is grateful for the trust and responsibility entrusted to us and takes on this challenge with the utmost enthusiasm. An appointment that represents a new impetus in the municipal commitment to the film and audiovisual sector, both nationally and internationally. “

Forn added that: “Terrassa is at the service of the network to coordinate, support or promote new projects and initiatives in what is both a challenge and a great opportunity to position the city as one of the great international benchmarks of cinema and the audiovisual and consolidating its relationship with Unesco ».

Terrassa was designated a Creative City of Cinema by Unesco in 2017, after passing a national selection and an international evaluation, thus becoming part of the Network of Creative Cities of Unesco structured in the fields of cinema, gastronomy, design, music, crafts and folk arts, digital arts and literature. Currently, in the world, there are a total of 246 creative cities with this distinction, of which only 18 are creative cities in the field of cinema: Busan, Sydney, Rome, Mumbai, Sarajevo, Potsdam, Łódź, Sofia, Vitola, Valladolid, Yamagata, Galway, Bradford, Bristol, Santos, Wellington, Qingdao and Terrassa.
