27th October is the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, declared to safeguard and remember the historical value of cinema and the archives of moving images. Terrassa, as a UNESCO City of Film and led by the Taula Local de l’Audiovisual, doesn’t want to miss out on this great opportunity to publicise the seventh art in its most primitive expressions, remembering the importance of its preservation and dissemination.

As happened last year at primary and secondary schools across the city, the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage will again be included in the Educational Activities Guide, but with more sessions taking place this year, all between Monday 22 and Friday 26 October. These sessions can be held in groups, joining together various classes, at any spaces suitable for showing films.

They will last for an hour and a half and will be led by the film director of Terrassa, Antoni Verdaguer. The Filmoteca de Catalunya Restoration and Conservation Centre will be showing a selection of restored films, short films from different eras and creators linked to the city, and early animation films, all accompanied by talks and lectures. The basic idea is to show exactly what audiovisual heritage is through exemplary pieces.

The Film Week – World Day of Audiovisual Heritage initiative is part of the set of activities designed to promote and make film more accessible that were assumed by Terrassa when it became a UNESCO City of Film in 2017.
